Uduaghan urges Chevron to increase funding for Itsekiri communities

WARRI – DELTA – State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, has urged Chevron Nigeria Limited to increase its funding to Itsekiri Oil and Gas Producing/Impacted Communities Development Committee (IRDC) to enable the committee carry out mega projects such as shore protection, canalisation, sand filling and provision of electricity.

Uduaghan, represented by Mr. Daniel Reyenieju, the member representing Warri Federal Constituency at the National Assembly at the maiden IRDC Annual General Meeting (AGM), enjoined Chevron to do more in the area of human capital development to strengthen the capacity of indigenes of its 23 oil bearing communities.

Chairman of IRDC, Mr. Omamofe Pirah, noted that 78 infrastructural projects were awarded by the IRDC within the period under review, while 230 women from the 23 Itsekiri communities within Chevron’s area of operation have so far benefited from IRDC micro-credit progra-mme.

Pirah, who has just been sworn in as Commissioner for Oil and Gas in the state, asked Chevron to do more in the area of direct employment of qualified Itsekiri into the company.

Chevron General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, Mr. Femi Odumabo described the AGM as a key fundamental of the Memorandum of Understanding on the initiative, which is hinged on transparency and accountability.
