26 October 2011, Sweetcrude, Abuja – The Sapele Power Plant, a key component of the Nigeria’s National Integrated Power Project, is to be completed in December this year, the Contractor handling the project has assured.

Sir Emeka Offor, the Chairman of Chrome Group, the company handling the project, gave the assurance at a meeting Tuesday with Vice President Namadi Sambo at the State House, Abuja.

Offor briefed Sambo on the progress so far made and the challenges facing the project with respect to the “Adanga – Calabar 24’ Transmission Pipeline and Metering Facilities.

Presenting reports on the project, Mr Geoff Stone, the Project Director of Kaztec Engineering Ltd, a subsidiary of Chrome Group, explained the progress made so far, citing the challenges the company was facing to include the re-evaluation of project plan schedule and the cost.

He also raised concerns over gas delivery for the smooth take-off of the plant.
Responding, Sambo directed that a stakeholders meeting should be convened to discuss and address the challenges posed to the project.

He noted that power plant, transmission lines, associated sub-stations and distribution networks, required competent staff to address the country’s power challenges.
Sambo also noted with delight that more contractors would be completing their projects by July next year.

He directed that a meeting of stakeholders should include the Managing Directors of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, the Nigeria Gas Company and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and that the forum should address challenges associated with the project within two weeks.
