NAPE moves 2011 Conference to Lagos

14 November 2011, Sweetcrude, Abuja – The Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) has moved 2011 Conference and Exhibition originally slated to hold 13-17 November at the International Conference Centre, Abuja to Lagos.

The development is a result of security concern over the activities of Boko Haram, the
radical Islamists sect, in the northern part of the country.

NAPE’s Vice President, Mr. Afe Mayowa, confirmed that the conference will now hold at a later date at Eko Hotel, Lagos.

Specifically, the association was forced to move the venue and dates for the conference following the poor turnout of oil executives at last week’s Nigerian Economic Summit in Abuja over the same issue of security.

The security concern inAbuja was heightened by last week’s warning by the United States embassy in Nigeria to US citizen to avoid posh hotels in Abuja which it said could be targets of attacks during the last Eid al-Adha Muslim holiday.

The US security alert on Abuja hotels came before the Islamist militants killed over 100 people last Friday in coordinated gun and bomb attacks in the northern city of Damaturu, Yobe state, in the northern part of Nigeria.
