8 December 2011, Sweetcrude, WARRI –The National Universities Commission (NUC) facts-finding team on the Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE), Effurun, Delta State, led by Prof Alhassan Bichi has found out that despite all the money pumped into the institution by the Nigerian government, none of its academic programmes could be accredited.

The Prof Bichi peace team was deployed to the university, some weeks ago, following the feud between the vice chancellor, Prof Babatunde Alabi and his group on one side and the forces, which accused him of not managing the school properly.

The opposing group objected to the recall of Prof Alabi and the registrar, Mrs. L. O. Onwuka, who were sent on accumulated/terminal leave by the Minister of Education against the orders of the governing council.

Prof Bichi who was sent on a rescue mission to FUPRE was specifically asked to work towards accreditation of the courses offered students by the school, among other things.

But it was gathered that the fact-finding team has discovered that FUPRE does not have enough professors and lecturers to meet accreditation requirement.

The peace panel has, therefore, asked that more professors and lecturers be immediately employed and all staff should bury the hatchet and work together for accreditation of the institution.
