13 December 2011, Sweetcrude, Asaba – THE Forum for Justice and Human Rights Defence has called on the Federal Government to shelve the proposed removal of fuel subsidy with effect from January next year, warning that such action would amount to “a declaration of ‘war’ against the ordinary citizens”.

The group in a statement signed by its National Co-ordinator, Mr. Oghenejabor Ikimi and made available  in Asaba yesterday said “the attention of members of the Forum for Justice and Human Rights Defence have been drawn to the National Economic Council’s recent endorsement of subside removal form January2012.

“We make bold to state that same is a declaration of ‘war’ against the ordinary citizens of this country which labour and the civil society groups would resist on behalf of the poverty stricken masses of this country come January. We advise the Federal Government to instead revamp the Warri, Kaduna and Port Harcourt refineries, make NNPC accountable, solve the power problem and improve the security of lives”, it stated.
