Fashola, Alison-Madueke to flag off oil games

20 February 2012, Sweetcrude, LAGOS - Minister for Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke, the executive governor of Lagos state, Babatunde Raji Fashola and the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporatio, NNPC, Engineer Austen Oniwon and chief executives of the participating companies will be among the dignitaries expected at the opening ceremony of the 14th Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games beginning this weekend at the Chevron Recreation Centre, Gbagada in Lagos.

According to the organisers, the games will be declared open by the Group Managing Director of NNPC Engineer Oniwon, who doubles as the chief host of the games.

Chairman of the main organising committee, Peter Odjoji told reporters that events will begin soon after the opening ceremony which will also feature a table tennis exhibition game and some cultural displays.

Events for competition include golf, table tennis, lawn tennis, squash, chess, scrabble, football, basketball, among others.

Twelve companies will be taking part in the week-long event which ends on March 3.

The companies in contention for the overall crown include defending champions, NNPC, Shell, Chevron, PTI, Agip Oil Nigeria, PPPRA, Total, ExxonMobil, Addax and Oando.

Preliminaries of the football event have since ended with Total and NNPC emerging as finalists.
