Army, Navy discover 23 oil bunkering sites in Anambra

Oil-theft09 April 2013, Awka – A joint team of Nigerian Army and the Navy, Monday, uncovered over 23 illegal oil bunkering sites in Anambra State.

They also found, in the process, equipment worth about N500 million.
General Officer Commanding, GOC, 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Adebayo Olaniyi led a combined team of the Army and Navy to various sites at Ogbakuba in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Expressing surprise at the discovery of the bunkering sites, Olaniyi said it amounted to serious economic sabotage.

He said the rising level of illegal oil bunkering business in many parts of the country was undermining the nation’s economy.

He, therefore, vowed that the army and other security agencies would intensify efforts to stem the ugly situation.

“I am short of words. What is happening here is very alarming and I make bold to say that this is at variance with the developmental agenda of Mr President because where oil bunkering thrives; it will continue to sabotage our economy,” he said.
