US rig count rises by 10

International-Rig-Count-Up04 May 2013 – The number of rigs drilling in the US rose by 10 this week for a total of 1764, according to data from Houston-based services giant Baker Hughes.

There were 22 more rigs drilling for oil compared to a week earlier for a total of 1403. Gas-targeted rigs fell by 12 for a total of 354. Gas rigs are down by 252 units on the year.

Oklahoma gained big this week, adding five rigs for a total of 188. Kansas was up one for 28.

Texas lost three for 831. The Eagle Ford in South Texas had around three fewer rigs drilling for a total of 301. The Permian basin was up eight on about 395.

New Mexico lost one for 78.

Louisiana lost one for 108. Mississippi was flat on 13. Arkansas was flat on 15.

Colorado was flat on 63. Wyoming gained one for 41. Utah lost one for 29.

North Dakota was up one for 174. Montana was flat on 11.

Pennsylvania gained one to finish the week at 60. West Virginia was flat on 24 and Ohio gained one for 32.

Alaska more than doubled its weekly count, adding five rigs for a total of eight.

California was flat on 41.
