KEDC provides alternative source of power to Sokoto

Geometric-power13 June 2013, Kaduna – The Managing Director of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, KEDC, Alhaji Idris Mohammed, has revealed that the company was making available alternative means to provide electricity for the people, following power blackout in Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states in the last two weeks.

Mohammed spoke through the Business Manager of Marina Business Unit Sokoto, Haruna Mohammed, during a sensitisation meeting in the state.

According to him, an alternative arrangement is being made towards alleviating the sufferings of the people by back feeding the affected states from the Kaduna-Funtua-Gusau-Talata Mafara 132 KV line.

He explained that the problem was caused by a natural disaster (windstorm) that affected three Transmission Towers along the Kainji – Birnin Kebbi 330 KV line.
Mohammed appealed to the public to bear with the situation, assuring that the Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, was working round the clock towards ensuring the restoration of normal power supply in the nearest future.

He however, said that epileptic power supply would be witnessed until the situation is rectified. “People will witness epileptic power supply to enable the available energy to be shared amongst the three affected states before the completion of the repairs on the collapsed towers,” he stated.

The three transmission towers were on May 23, 2013 affected by windstorm at Rafin Guzuma village in Maiyama local government area of Kebbi state and the people of Sokoto, Kebbi and parts of Zamfara states have since been experiencing power blackout.
