Iraq pipeline bomb halts Kirkuk flows

Drilling rig17 August 2013, News Wires – A bomb attack halted the crude flows through a pipeline running from Iraq’s Kirkuk oilfields to the Mediterranean port of Ceyhan in Turkey, according to a report.

The attack took place at around 1:00 am GMT on Friday near the al-Shura area 60 kilometres south of the city of Mosul, Reuters reprted, citing two Iraqi oil officials.

The officials said repair work would be complete in around 48 hours.

“Attackers planted a roadside bomb near a section of the pipeline,” one official told the news wire.

The 900-kilometre pipeline has been bombed by militants around 30 times since the start of the year, according to the oil ministry.
