Jigawa seeks EU support on renewable energy

Green-energy22 August 2013, Abuja – Gov. Sule Lamido of Jigawa has sought the support of the European Union, EU, in the generation of renewable energy in the state.

Lamido sought the support in Dutse when he received the EU Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr David Macrae, who paid him a courtesy visit.

Lamido, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Lawal Abdu, said that renewable energy was paramount to the rapid development of the state.

He explained that the state had already cultivated 600 hectares of jetropha plant to achieve its desire to generate renewable energy.

Lamido appealed to the EU to also assist the state with soft loan to invest in the area of education, infrastructure and economic empowerment.

He commended the body for its support in the area of water supply, pointing out that such contribution had made positive changes in the social lives of the people.

Earlier, the EU ambassador said that Jigawa had performed well in the execution of EU supported projects and promised further assistance.
