Norway’s EMGS wins $8m deal for Angola survey

EM_leader18 October 2013, News Wires –  Norwegian electromagnetic (EM) survey contractor EMGS has signed an $8 million contract with Maersk Oil for a 3D EM survey over the Lower Congo basin.


EMGS chief executive Roar Bekker said the company hoped to ink more deals with Maersk Oil and other players in Sub-Saharan Africa in the wake of the contract, for which a letter of intent was signed last month.


The EM Leader is to mobilise to the area before the survey gets underway sometime later this month, the company said.


Maersk Oil holds stakes in a trio of blocks off Angola. The Danish explorer has made four oil discoveries on the acreage, 2009’s Chissonga find, 2011’s Azul discovery,last year’sCaporolo find and the Cubal discovery made during the summer.
