A Review of the Nigerian Energy Industry

Sure-P’s missing funds

SURE-P-251110 November 2013, Lagos – The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, last week washed its hands off the lingering controversy over the alleged missing N500 billion Sure-P funds.

The corporation, which described media reports linking it to the Sure-P budget as comprehensive falsehood, said it had no connection whatsoever with the disbursement and appropriation of funds to the Sure-P Committee.

Beyond the alleged missing funds, the other issue, equally disturbing, is that the activities of the committee cannot be described as visible to many people.

This should be a source of worry to us all. The National Assembly should get to the bottom of the missing fund. We must also know what SURE-P, put in place to cushion the effect of fuel price hike in 2012, is doing.

I’m still at a loss why the Sure-P Committee made up of eminent Nigerians, which included Dr. Christopher Kolade has decided to keep mum in the face of this serious allegation.
