US rig count falls by one

Rigs25 November 2013, News Wires – The number of rigs drilling for oil and gas in the US fell by one this week for a total of 1761, according to data from Houston-based oilfield services giant Baker Hughes.

Oil-directed rigs were up by two for a total of 1387 while gas rigs fell by one to total 369.

The Eagle Ford was the biggest gainer among basins, adding three for a total of 226. The Permian was flat on 470.

The Marcellus also made a small push with three added rigs to total 90. It is down four rigs on the year.

The Bakken, in the Williston basin, added two for a total of 179.

Going the other direction, the Barnett lost three rigs to total 33.

States had a turbulent week. Texas was the big gainer with six additional rigs for a weekly total of 831.

West Virginia impressed with a gain of five rigs to total 37, up 10 on the year.

California and Oklahoma took a hit, shedding five and four rigs, respectively, for total of 37 and four.

Pennsylvania lost three for 54.
