28 November 2013, Katsina – The Katsina State Government has approved N271.6 million for the electrification of 16 communities in the state, the Commissioner for Rural Development, Alhaji Tijjani Zango, said on Thursday.
Zango made this known in Katsina when he addressed members of the state Assembly’s Committee on Rural Development who visited him, as part of their oversight functions.
He said that the electrification project was aimed at improving the living conditions of the people of rural communities in all the 34 local government areas of the state.
The commissioner also said the state government had distributed 70 transformers to different communities to enhance the socio-economic activities of the residents of the communities.
Zango said that the House approved N500 million for the capital projects of the ministry, adding that the budget would be fully implemented.
The committee’s Chairman, Assemblyman Bilyaminu Yamel, told the commissioner that they were in the ministry to assess the ministry’s efforts to execute its mandates.
Yamel said that legislature would continue to cooperate with the executive in efforts to execute projects which would enhance the people’s living standards.
