Maku lauds Alison-Madueke, Yakubu’s leadership in oil industry

labaran-maku09 December 2013, Sweetcrude, Abuja – Minister of Information and leader of the Federal Government Good Governance Tour Team, Mr. Labaran Maku has praised the “result-oriented leadership” of the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke and GMD NNPC, Engr. Yakubu in the nation’s oil and gas industry.

Maku gave the commendation when he led the Good Governance Tour team to the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemicals Company, KRPC, Ltd in Kaduna.

“It is heart-warming to see that KRPC is back in operation and serving the numerous energy needs of this region. This is largely due to the quality of leadership provided by the Petroleum Minister and of course the vision, focus and commitment of the GMD NNPC,” Maku stated.

He also lauded the “ingenuity of the KRPC staff” which he said was a pointer to the fact that Nigerians have the talent, capability and technical know-how to successfully run the nation’s oil facilities and move the nation forward.

He also made case for deregulation of the nation’s downstream sector, noting that it will bring about best business practices and also ensure efficiency and maximum capacity utilisation especially in the refineries.

Responding, the GMD NNPC, Engr Andrew Yakubu described the KRPC as one of the success stories of the many strategic investments of the Federal government.

“Here, you’ll be proud to know that as a result of the efforts of our hardworking staff to sustain KRPC’s operations, most depots in the northern part of this country which KRPC supplies fuel to are now wet with products, thereby adding value to the nation’s hydrocarbon value-chain” Engr. Yakubu said.

Engr. Yakubu also reiterated NNPC’s commitment to ensure adequate supply of key domestic products such as kerosene which is why the Corporation is insisting on selling it to Nigerians at the official price of N50 in its Mega and affiliate stations across the country.

On his part, the Acting Managing Director of the Company, Engr. Bafred Audu Anjugu told the Good Governance Team that KRPC has recorded a number of giant strides this year, all courtesy of its hardworking workforce.

Prominent amongst key success areas were the sustained operations of the fuel units as well as the re-streaming of the Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit, FCCU, which has been down since 2005.

Highlight of the visit was a facility tour of the KRPC Process and Manufacturing Plants where the Good Governance Tour team got briefed on the various operations and activities of the refinery.
