Total to kick off exploration off Oman

Total12 December 2013, News Wires – Total is set to kick off exploration work next year on a deep-water block off Oman after inking a production sharing contract to enter the Middle East play.

The French giant said on Thursday it had signed the deal for Block 41 that covers almost 24,000 square kilometres and lies offshore in water depth of up to 3000 metres north-west of the capital Muscat.

“This acquisition is aligned with Total’s ambitious exploration strategy focused on frontier basins and new plays with strong potential,” said Total’s head of Middle East exploration Arnaud Breuillac.

“For Total, this new entry into the ultra-deep offshore waters of Oman bolsters other recent additions to our exploration portfolio.”

The company said it intends to start exploration on the tract with seabed coring in 2014.
