NSCDC to end oil theft this year

NSCDC parades suspected oil pipeline vandals06 January 2014, Abuja – The management of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has assured Nigerians that it will completly stop oil theft in the country before the end of the year.

The Commandant General of the Corps, Dr. Ade Abolurin made this known while addressing the Press at the Corps’ headquarters in Abuja at the weekend.

“In the next one week, we are going to roll out a lot of things to convince you that we are up to the task and ready for the combat,” he noted.

It would be recalled that in December last year, the Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro directed the Corps to set up a ‘Special squad’ to tackle oil theft which is eating into the country’s economy.

When asked how far the Corps had gone in seting up the squad, Dr. Abolurin said: “it’s already part of our first priorities.”

Reflecting on the Corps’ performance in the past year, Abolurin said: ” We tried our best to ensure that we lived above standard.”

He assured that the challenges faced in 2013 will not be experienced this year as his officers and men will be more proactive and successful.

“We are suppose to breakthrough in all places where there are barriers, we are suppose to ensured that vandals are driven away from our soil, oil theft is no longer pronounced and vandalism is a thing of the past,” he stressed.

In 2014, the NSCDC boss called on Nigerians to embrace peace so as to allow the government succeed in providing the dividends of democracy to all.
