Women group urges NNPC to take kerosene sale to rural areas

Kerosene queue at an NNPC filling station17 February 2014, Jos – A group, Concerned Women of Nigeria, has appealed to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to establish filling stations in rural areas to make kerosene available at the official rate to rural women.

Spokesperson of the group, HajiaAminaAliyu, who made the appeal at a news briefing in Jos also called on the National Assembly to be patient with the Minster of Petroleum Resources, MrsDiezani Alison-Madueke, over her recent failure to honour invitations extended to her.

“The minister and her team should make mega stations available in all the local government headquarters and districts of the country for sale of kerosene so that women can have access to enough of the product not to resort to the use of firewood,” AminaAliyu said.

She further urged the ministry of petroleum resources to set up a task force that will have presence in all local government areas and districts to facilitate availability of the product at the controlled price.

On the strained relationship between the minister of petroleum and relevant committees of both the Senate and House of Representatives, HajiaAliyu said, “We the Nigerian women are calling on the National Assembly to give the honourable minister more time to tidy up her office and prepare her documents before she goes to them.”
