Eko DISCO to add 400mw into its system

power_transformer05 March 2014, Lagos — The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKDC) said it plans to inject additional 400 megawatts off-grid power into its system in few months.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company, Mr Oladele Amoda, who disclosed this during the launch of the Distribution Company’s forum office in Lagos, last week, said the additional off-grid power would cater for the needs of customers and also justify their patronage of the company.

He said the company will apply corporate governance to deal with its customers, even as he cautioned them against using third parties for the repair of their transformers and other power installations.

“We have told our customers that, henceforth, nobody should contribute money for anybody, not even staff in the name of buying or repairing transformers, cable and power installations,” Amoda said.

The Chairman, West Power & Gas Limited, owners of the Disco, Mr Charles Momoh, said the company has unveiled plans to invest N42 billion to transform the facility and improve its distribution network in five years.

Momoh, who was represented by Mr Tunji Olowolafe, a director, said the money would be invested in metering, cleaning of the system, cabling, transformers and making sure that everything works.
