Shell sponsors research at UNIBEN

Shell logo20 March 2014, Abuja – Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) said it was sponsoring research at the research at the University of Benin to enable students to gain core skills in geosciences.

According to a document obtained by CAJ News in Abuja, the programme seeks to leverage on the capacity in local universities to conduct Research and Development studies, and thus enable the institutions become also platforms for effective training and development of future recruits.

“In 1996, Shell began an initiative that would enable experts, particularly the Shell Professors, from various disciplines in Nigerian universities to help in providing solutions to the company’s Exploration and Production challenges through Research and Development projects.

“Such challenges had previously been referred to research laboratories in Europe and the United States for resolution,” the oil giant stated.

Under the programme, the oil firm invests in the development of research facilities in relevant disciplines in the universities and provides funds for the payment of research personnel.
