Chevron wins lawsuit

Old Bailey30 April 2014, News Wires – A New York federal judge has tossed a lawsuit brought by Patton Boggs against Chevron, accusing the company of “bad faith” litigation tactics.

The Washington law firm attempted to enforce a multibillion-dollar pollution judgment against the supermajor.

US district judge Lewis Kaplan granted Chevron’s motion to dismiss the case, agreeing the a 2013 recommendation by US magistrate judge James Francis that Patton Boggs did not having legal standing to sue, according to Reuters.

This suit is the most recent of three that Patton has filed against Chevron in relation with its efforts to enforce an $18 billion judgment made in Ecuador in 2011.

The controversial suit claims that Chevron had polluted Ecuador’s rainforest.

Patton accused Chevron of cutting off Ecuadorian plaintiffs’ ability to get funding for legal counsel and making misrepresentations in order to get a temporary restraining order.

Chevron asked for the case to be thrown out in April.
