TUC, PENGASSAN suspend strike in Rivers

PengassanMkpoikana Udoma 21 May 2014, Sweetcrude, Port Harcourt – The Trade Union Congress, TUC, says its planned industrial action in Rivers State which was to commence today, has been suspended.

The TUC state vice chairman, Comrade Clems Onyesom in a text message confirmed that the strike has been suspended following the outcome of the meeting last night between TUC, PENGASSAN, Eleme leaders and the management of Indorama-Eleme Petrochemical Company Limited, EPCL on the crisis that erupted during PENGASSAN election on 10th May 2014.

According to him, “The TUC obliged to suspend further calls for any strike of either PENGASSAN or TUC Rivers State Council”.

However the TUC said it was still having serious issues with the management of Indorama-EPCL over their lapses that led to the incident and threatened to collaborate with PENGASSAN to take a severe industrial action against the company, if compensation for trauma, pains, beatings and treatment of their injured members were not adequately and swiftly resolved.
