Egypt’s generated electricity up 4.6% in 2012-2013

Egypt power generation portfolio07 June 2014, Cairo – Egypt’s Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said that the total production of electricity generation has increased in 2012-2013 by 4.6% from 157.4 megawatts/hour in 2011-2012 to reach nearly 164.6 megawatts/hour in 2012-2013.

CAPMAS explained that energy generated from water represented nearly 8% while energy generated from new and renewable sources represented nearly 0.9% of total electric energy production.

It added that consumption of petroleum materials and natural gas has increased by 4.9% to reach nearly 71.6 million metric tons in 2011-2012 compared with 68.3 million metric tons in 2010-2011.
