Russian oil giant criticised over environment

Lukoil fined for oil spills in Russia's Komi republic15 June 2014 – Communities in northern Komi Republic accuse Lukoil of damaging the environment in search for oil and other resources.

Russia’s second largest oil company is facing protests from communities living in the country’s far north over allegedly damaging the environment.

Villagers in the oil-rich Komi Republic accuse Lukoil of destroying forests and trying to cover up oil spills.

The tipping point for many was an illegal facility built without the required consultation with Komi communities.
