OSGOF harps on geo-spatial data usage for curbing oil spillage

Oil-spill 121 June 2014, Abuja – The Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGOF) has announced its decision to support the National Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) in curbing oil spillage through the use of Geo-spatial data.

The Surveyor-General of the Federation (SGOF), Peter Chigozie Nwilo (Professor) made this known recently when the Director – General of NOSDRA, Peter Idabor paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Abuja to solicit for the OSGOF’s support to their work. He promised that the OSGOF will collaborate and support NOSDRA through the data sharing and digital elevation model. Adding, the OSGOF in collaboration with the Ministry of Mines & Steel Development has established 60 Zero Order Controls that are connected to the International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF 2008).

According to him, the office is responsible for undertaking vital surveys and providing the Geo-spatial data required for national planning and development. He expressed the office’s readiness to support every agency that needs the OSGOF services.

Earlier in his remarks, the Director-General of NOSDRA noted that his visit was to solicit for the support of OSGOF in the area of Geo-spatial data provision towards helping NOSDRA to curb oil spillage.
