Two dead in Louisiana rig incident

US rig24 June 2014, News Wires – Two Texas men were killed and a third worker injured in an apparent blowout in northern Louisiana last week, authorities said.

The Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office said a call for help went out from a WildHorse drilling rig at 11:45 pm local time on 19 June.

“It is understood that tremendous pressure that was present on some components gave way, causing the release of pressure,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

The specifics of the incident are still under investigation.

Authorities identified the deceased as Ryan Hinson, 36, of Longview, Texas and Thomas Samuel, 40, of Nacogdoches, Texas.

The two workers were pronounced dead at the scene while the third, who was not identified, was brought to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Ruston, the seat of Lincoln Parish, lies about 70 miles east of Shreveport.

Houston-based WildHorse Resources is a privately held, onshore-focused US company with positions in the Cotton Valley, Bossier, Smackover and Woodbine formations.

The company could not be reached for comment at its Houston office Monday afternoon.
