27 June 2014, News Wires – The count of oil and gas rigs drilling in the US jumped by 15 this week to 1873, according to the latest data from Houston service company Baker Hughes.
The number exploring for oil increased by 13 to 1558, or up 168 units from a year ago.
The count searching for gas grew by three to 314, off by 39 from a year ago.
The Gulf of Mexico offshore shed three rigs to 54, a count flat from a year ago.
By state, Oklahoma saw the largest change in its count, adding eight units for a total of 208.
Pennsylvania also added two rigs for a count of 59, while counts in Kansas and Louisiana fell by three and two to 30 and 107 respectively.
By play, Texas’ Granite Wash formation added two rigs for a total of 72, while North Dakota’s Williston basin added three for 178.
Louisiana’s Haynesville play shed three rigs for a count of 41, with the Mississippian also dropping by two for a count of 77.
