Oil Search sees positive signs

Taza-1 well24 July 2014 – Australia-listed Oil Search has seen some encouraging results in the Taza-1 well which has reached total depth in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.

The well reached a total depth of 4200 metres on Wednesday night local time.

Oil Search found hydrocarbons shows during the week towards the base of the previously drilled section.

Another 102 metres was drilled to the final total depth.

Wireline logs are being acquired over the new section of hole and preparation is underway for a a comprehensive testing programme.

Drill stem tests are expected to be carried out over about five intervals.

Taza-2 is just north-west of the Taza-1, and was designed to appraise the Jeribe/Dhiban and Euphrates/Kirkuk formations.

The well also tested the lower tertiary and cretaceous targets, including the Shiranish formation.

Oil Search’s Iraqi outfit is the operator of the well and holds a 60% interest, while Total holds 20% and the Kurdistan Regional Government holds 20%.
