A Review of the Nigerian Energy Industry

Power ministry debunks publication on 10,000Mw 2015 projection

Prof Chinedu Nebo27 July 2014, Abuja – The Federal Ministry of Power has drawn the attention of the public to some facts in the report published by the Ministry on the suitability of the Indian Power Sector Model for Nigeria recently.

According to the release from the Head of the Publicity Department of the Ministry, Timothy Oyedeji on Tuesday July 22, 2014, contrary to the content of the statement reported by the Ministry on Monday July 21, 2014 which bears 10,000 megawatts power projection for 2014, the said projection was for 2015.

Timothy Oyedeji also said that the projection for 2014 as disclosed by the Minister of Power, Chinedu Nebo (Professor) remains 6,000 megawatts. He expressed regret for any anomaly in the earlier published figure, saying the said report was unfortunate as it was not meant to quote figures at variance with the sector’s agreed generation capacities in stated timelines. “The service-wide projection for 2014 still remains 6,000 megawatts, while the 10,000 megawatts is for 2015. It is a realistic figure and would be attained with the Minister of Power as sector leader, working assiduously with other stakeholders,” he indicated.
