29 September 2014, News Wires – Shell has been given the nod by Norway’s petroleum agency to drill an appraisal at its Ormen Lange field in the southern Norwegian Sea.

The Anglo-Dutch operator will use semi-submersible Transocean Barents to drill the 6305/8-2 probe at the so-called D-Far South target, about seven kilometres south-east of the field’s D subsea template, in a water depth of about 615 metres.

The well – the second to be drilled in Shell-operated production licence 250 –  will have a targeted total depth of 3100 metres with drilling work expected to take 81 days.

Shell operates the licence with a 16% interest, with partners Petoro (45%), Statoil (23.65%), Dong E&P (9.44%) and ExxonMobil (5.91%).
