Minister to NDDC: Key into N-Delta action plan

01 October 2014, Port Harcourt — Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Dr. Steve Oru, has called for collaboration between his ministry and the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, in the development of the region.

The minister who spoke yesterday at the headquarters of the NDDC in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, urged the commission to key into the Niger Delta Action Plan that was unveiled by his ministry last year, noting that it was designed to fast track the development of the region.

He said that the document will eliminate duplication of projects between the commission and the ministry.

“You may be aware that the ministry in collaboration with development partners unveiled the Niger Delta Action Plan in 2013. It is a document designed to fast track the development of the Niger Delta region and eliminate duplication of projects, thereby minimizing waste of limited resources. We want you to key into this vision,” he said.

He added that the ministry and NDDC were established as specialized interventionist agencies to help tackle challenges of underdevelopment in the region.

“We must not be seen as working at cross purposes. We must share ideas and experiences on ways to tackle issues and implementation of our programmes,” he said.

Earlier, Managing Director of the commission, Mr Basil Dan-Abia, commended the minister for the visit, saying that the commission will look at areas in which it would want to partner the ministry on development related issues in the region.
