16 November 2014, Sweetcrude, Lagos – SUPERVISING Minister of Labour and Productivity, Alhaji Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, has said the Federal Government has inaugurated a National Job Board, NJB, aimed generating employing no fewer than three million unemployed Nigerians in the next 12 months
The Minister who announced this at the National Directorate of Employment, NDE, special day 2014 edition at the just concluded Lagos International Trade Fair, said it was parts of government efforts to fast track job creation in the country..
The minister who was represented by his special adviser, Iliyasu Ahmed, said “International Trade Fairs serve as a meeting point for international businessmen and women to showcase their products and services and also a forum for the exchange of business ideas. The theme of this year’s fair is in tandem with the policy thrust of the federal government’s transformation agenda. President Goodluck Jonathan recently inaugurated National Job Board under the chairmanship of the Vice President of the federation. The Board has been charge to create three million jobs for unemployed Nigerians in the next 12 months.
“Measures put in place towards achieving the economic goal in the transformation agenda include rebasing of the National GDP, initiating the community works programme, leading to the creation of 370,000 jobs making Nigeria the preferred destination for foreign direct investments in Africa showcase nigerians impressive economic growth to the global audience and attracting foreign investments. The directorate under its rural Employment Promotion, REP, and the implementation of the Rural Agricultural Development Training scheme, has successfully trained a total of 1,907 persons in various aspects of agricultural production and value-addition in the year 2013.”
