09 December 2014, News Wires – London-listed Kosmos Energy has identified a number of prospects across FEL 2/13 and FEL 3/13 in the South Porcupine basin off Ireland.
Kosmos presented joint venture partner Europa Oil & Gas with a new prospect inventory based on state-of-the-art 3D seismic acquired in 2013.
Europa said a number of new, large prospects had been identified and had upgraded the prospectivity of the previously mapped licences.
In FEL 3/13, two prospects have been identified and have been named Beckett and Wilde, while one lead called Shaw, was also identified.
The new prospects have a gross mean prospective resource of 760 million barrels of oil for Beckett, and 493 million barrels for Wilde.
These new prospects replace the Kiernan prospect previously identified by Europa.
At licence FEL 2/13 Doyle A and Doyle B are the two new prospects have been identified, containing a gross mean prospective resource of 123 million barrels and 69 million barrels, respectively.
These prospects have replaced the Mullen prospect identified by Europa.
More seismic work is being carried out to shore up the prospects with work expected to be completed in the first half of 2015.
Europa said this gave the joint venture scope to start drilling in as early as 2016.
Europa chief executive Hugh Mackay said this was a significant step forward for the joint venture in Ireland.
“If positive this could lead to what could be a company-making well for Europa being drilled in 2016,” he said.
“More information will become available over the coming months as our plans mature and we look forward to updating the markets in due course.”
