The Kerosene-Direct scheme was designed to end scarcity and enhance availability of the product in the communities.

A cross-section of the residents, who spoke to NAN in Hadejia, described the scheme as ‘commendable’.

Alhaji Muhammad Garba, a resident, said the scheme would reduce difficulties experienced by consumers in accessing the product.

Garba said the scheme would also protect consumers from exploitation by black market operators.

“The direct sales of kerosene will ensure availability and reduce difficulties being face in accessing the product.

“It will also reduce reliance on fuel wood by many families and protect the environment.”

Mukhtar Jubo, another resident, said the scheme would control high cost of the commodity and enable families cut spending on the product.

Jubo called for practical measures to guard against diversion and ensure sustainability of the programme.
