18 February 2015, News Wires – Six people are now confirmed to have died following an explosion last week on board a floating production, storage and offloading unit working for Petrobras off Brazil.
The body of one of the four people who were still missing following the 11 February blast on the Cidade de Sao Mateus on the Camarupim and Camarupim Norte fields in the Espirito Santo basin has now been retrieved, vessel owner BW Offshore said.
The search and rescue effort continues for the three remaining missing, all of whom are Brazilians.
The bodies of five workers – four Brazilians and one Indian – that were earlier flown to shore have now been released to their families. Preparations are being made to transport the sixth body – also a Brazilian – to shore, the Norwegian contractor said.
Five personnel remain in hospital receiving medical attention.
The explosion initially left three people confirmed dead, with that number swiftly rising tofive. There were 74 people working on the floater when the blast occurred.
Production was halted and the unit remains shut in.
