THISDAY checks revealed that the fire incident started around eight o’clock in the evening of Tuesday and was stopped at half past one in the morning of Wednesday.

It was also gathered that about 17 offices were affected by the fire incident which took the fire service more than five hours to put off.

Sources close to the ministry told journalists on Wednesday that, the incident was caused by electrical faults in one of the offices of the ministry.

An eye-witness who happened to be a security guard on duty, Mr. Muhammed Alabi, said: “I was praying at my duty post around 8 pm when I saw fire coming out from the building. So I had to run to the police station to help me contact the fire service. The fire service battled with the inferno from 8 pm to 1pm in the morning of today (Wednesday)”.
Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Wednesday about the incident, the State Commissioner for Energy, Alhaji Musa Abdullahi, attributed the cause of the fire incident to power surge from one of the offices, saying that his office, Permanent Secretary and directors offices were affected.
