11 June 2015, News Wires – Norwegian seismic contractor Spectrum has kicked off an extensive 2D shoot off Mexico under a joint venture with oilfield services player Schlumberger.
The pair will acquire 12,200 kilometres of seismic data under the first phase of the total 44,000-kilometre Campeche-Yutacan multi-client survey in the Gulf of Mexico to identify potential exploration leads.
The programme will cover areas from the Campeche Escarpment – including ties to blocks to be offered in Mexico’s inaugural Round 1 – as well as the Yucatan shelf and deep-water areas.
The survey will also tie in with Spectrum’s BigWave seismic programme in the eastern part of the US Gulf of Mexico.
Data from the Campeche-Yutacan shoot will be made available from July to coincide with the 15 July opening of bids under Round 1 in which 14 shallow-water exploration blocks are on offer to mark the opening of Mexico’s offshore waters to foreign participants.
Some 26 companies have pre-qualified to bid on the blocks.
