Mkpoikana Udoma 29 June 2015, Sweetcrude, Port Harcourt – A double explosion have hit the premises of Italian oil giant, Nigerian Agip Oil Company, NAOC, in Ebeocha town ,near Omoku, in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, causing intense fire outbreak.
SweetCrudeReports learnt that the first explosion occurred on Sunday, at about 10pm, while another happened today (Monday} morning and has been raging even as at the time of filing this report.
No casualty has been reported, but a combined team of fire service from Agip and Total E & P companies, are making frantic efforts to ensure the fire did not escalate and cause havoc in the host communities.
The cause of the explosion has not been ascertained, but an eye witness who spoke on the grounds of anonymity said there was an explosion from one of the tanks, leading to the fire outbreak.
According to the witness, “after the first explosion on Sunday night, another explosion occurred this morning (Monday), shortly after men of the fire service had contained the initial incident.
Meanwhile, Chairman of ONELGA, Mr. Augustine Ahiamadu, who confirmed the incident to journalists, has ruled out sabotage.
He stated that the location of the facility was a high-risk-zone, noting that the tanks were quite old and needed to be reviewed.
The council boss also confirmed that the second explosion occurred this morning, but could not confirm the cause of the explosion, or if there was any casualty.
