21 July 2015, News Wires – Survey giant CGG has won a contract from Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) to acquire data over two onshore areas in the emerging gas powerhouse.
The company will shoot high-resolution gravity gradiometry and aeromagnetic data over the tracts along the south-eastern Tanzanian coastal basin and the eastern arm of the East Africa Rift, it said.
CGG will gather data over 30,000 square kilometres, with the acquisition to start in mid-August and last around two months.
TPDC managing director James Mataragio said: “We know that there have been significant discoveries in the Kenyan and Ugandan parts of the Rift Valley, and there may well be undiscovered oil or gas reserves on Tanzania’s side.
“The … survey is imperative given the significant reserves discovered in similar geological settings in Kenya and Uganda.”
