NSCDC arrests 10 suspects over Agip pipeline vandalism in Bayelsa

03 September 2015, Yenagoa—The Bayelsa State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has arrested 10 persons suspected to have vandalised crude oil pipeline owned by Nigerian Agip Oil Company, NAOC, along the creeks of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state.

According to NSDC, the suspects were arrested within the time frame of six months over alleged involvement in pipeline vandalisation and oil theft.

Deputy Commandant of the NSDC, Anikan Udeoyop, who confirmed the development during a meeting with the State Commissioner of Police, Department of State Security, DSS, officials of the Agip Oil Company and the leadership of the Southern Ijaw communities of Ondewari, Okputuwari, Umbugbene and Kemebiama, said that the incessant raid and arrest along the creeks had contributed to the peace in the troubled area.

Udeoyop commended the state security outfit, Door Akpo for the working partnership with the Corps.

He announced that the NSDC had approved the registration of two additional private security guard company in the state  bringing the total number to 50.

On  attacks on bank customers in the state, the NSDC confirmed that though the screening and approval of the security companies was meant to assist the existing security agencies on security issues, “The Corps is already packaging a three-month security training programme for physical self defence and for bank personnel in the state.”
