Mkpoikana Udoma 30 September 2015, Sweetcrude, Port Harcourt – The Abia State Commander of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Mr. Benito Eze, has lamented the increase in pipeline vandalism in the state since the Port Harcourt Refinery resumed pumping of petroleum products to Aba and Enugu depots.
Eze, who made the disclosure in Umuahia, Abia State capital, said 14 suspected pipeline vandals arrested by the command are currently facing prosecution.
He also said that four additional suspects arrested would also face prosecution with the 14 as soon as investigations were concluded on their activities.
The four additional suspects are Peter Ugochukwu, 28; Uzoma Anyim, 48; Winner Onwuegbu, 28; and Udoka Nwokorie, 27.
“Between the second week of August to date, no fewer than 18 suspected vandals have been arrested by this command along Osisioma area.
“The suspects usually perforated the pipelines where they fix nozzles with which they siphon the products into containers.
“More than six trucks and different sizes of jerry cans, eight cars and buses, have also been confiscated during this period,” Eze said.
