Brazil cops eye further Car Wash arrests

16 November 2015, News Wires – Police investigating the corruption scandal at Petrobras are looking to arrest and question a plethora of former executives at the Brazilian state giant as the probe swells, according to a report.

Handcuffs.arrestEleven search and seizure orders have been issued by police in the states of Rio de Janeiro and Bahia, with authorities looking to arrest two individuals.

A further five people are set to be searched and questioned in the southern Brazilian city of Curitiba, Reuters reported, citing a statement from police.

The latest action is part of the 20th round of Operation Car Wash, which is investigating historical bribery and corruption at Petrobras surrounding the contracting process.

The seven people who are targeted in the new measure are being probed in relation to contracts for the Pasadena and Abreu & Lima refineries.

Also on Monday, a prosecutor hinted that Petrobras’ purchase of the Pasadena facility may be quashed on foot of the corruption probe.

“We are going to try and annul the acquisition or indemnify losses to the Brazilian nation,” said prosecutor Carlos Lima, at a press conference held at federal police headquarters in Curitiba, according to the Brazilain Globo media network.
