17 December 2015, Lagos – APM Terminals Apapa Limited has achieved ISO 28000:2007 security certification, issued by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance Limited.
According to a statement by the company, the ISO certification is a security management system, which includes the security assurance of the supply chain, specifically the handling of containerised cargo.
The statement read, “APMT Apapa Limited, the busiest container terminal in West Africa, is the only company in Nigeria, which has earned the ISO 28000:2007 certification.
“This distinction reflects the commitment of the company, part of the APM Terminals Global Terminal Network, to perform at the highest international standards, and recognized best practices in theft prevention, cargo security, and supply chain integrity.”
The Head of Security APM Terminals Apapa, Ayo Olatubosun said the terminal had received approval and commendation from the United States Coast Guard and the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Security Agency for the security measures for cargo handling at the terminal.
He said, “We were determined to achieve even higher security levels in the interests of the country, and of our customers.
“While global trade poses security risks ranging from theft to terrorism, this ISO certification shows that we have identified the critical aspects of the security of the cargo within APMT Apapa.
The Managing Director of APMT Apapa, Andrew Dawes, said, “We have also put in place security policies, procedures and controls required to manage secure and safe terminal operations.”
