30 January 2016, Lagos—The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has called on the Federal Government to use the fund recovered from those who looted the treasury to build refineries in order to meet the country’s energy needs. The union made the call at a stakeholders meeting held in Lagos on fuel subsidy and petrol pricing in Nigeria.
Speaking at the end of the meeting, General Secretary, NLC, Dr. Peter Ozo-Eson, said: “From the discussions we had today, it has become obvious that building refineries is imperative for Nigeria to meet its energy needs. And we are calling on the federal government to use the recovered loot to build refineries.
We do not want Nigerian workers to be used to pay the price of Nigeria’s economic mismanagement by those who have had the opportunity of running this country. The refineries must work. We must insist that those who ruined the economy must be made to pay for it.
Speaking earlier in an opening remark, factional President of NLC, Ayuba Wabba said the stakeholder meeting was inspired by the need to build capacity among labour stakeholders to better engage the government on its policies regarding fuel subsidy and petrol pricing in Nigeria.
