Eko Disco, USAID to sign technical assistance MoU

19 May 2016, Lagos -Eko Electricity Distribution Company says it will soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the United States Agency for International Development, as part of its drive towards attainment of optimal service delivery and customer satisfaction.

According to a statement signed by its General Manager, Corporate Communications, Mr. Godwin Idemudia, the MoU is for technical assistance from the USAID under the US government-funded Power Africa Transactions and Reforms Programme Inc.

The PATRP, which is designed to bring more electricity to sub-Saharan Africa through utilisation of transaction-centred approach, is a five-year USAID technical assistance project being implemented by Tetra Tech Inc.

Under the MoU to be signed, the technical assistance will cover provision of management support to address losses, strengthen management controls and enhance the required performance turnaround, said Idemudia.

He said the assistance would also help demonstrate loss-reduction strategies as well as other improvements that would serve as demonstrative effect for other distribution companies in the country.

The President of Tetra Tech Inc., Mr. Dean White, was quoted to have said, at the inaugural meeting between EKEDC and Tetra Tech in Lagos, that he was looking forward to a successful partnership with EKEDC.

He said, “Tetra Tech has a rich background of experience of partnering and managing power utilities in Africa.”

The Chairman, Board of Directors, EKEDC, Mr. Charles Momoh, said the company would continue to do everything possible to bring about the desired turnaround in the power situation of the country, especially in the company’s licence area.

He said he was confident that the partnership with USAID through Tetra Tech was a step in the right direction that would yield positive result to the satisfaction of all stakeholders.

Momoh stated that all conditions and responsibilities required from EKEDC for the partnership to work would be met.
