Occupy Chevron: Protesters, Police, DSS to hold talks in Asaba

Chevron13 August 2016, Warri – The occupation of Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL, Escravos facility by teeming protesters from, Ugborodo, Warri South West council area, Delta state entered day five yesterday with indications of a truce talk billed for Monday in Asaba among leaders of the protesters, DSS and Police authorities.

The protesters from all five communities making up Ugborodo, major host to Chevron Escravos assets have occupied the gates of the company since August 9, vowing to remain there until lingering issues of dispute with the firm are settled.

One of the protesters, Temi Eyoyibo told Vanguard yesterday that, “Nothing much have happened since we came. Chevron is bring nothing to the table, so we will remain here, but the Delta state police commissioner and head of the DSS could be meeting with our leaders”.

Those to meet with the security operatives, it was revealed, include Emmanuel Meke, Chairman, Ugborodo Interim Management Committee, IMC, and Oritsema Nuko, the community’s Women Leader.

The IMC is leading the protest aimed at forcing management of Chevron to give recognition to the IMC as the communal authority to relate with, but restraint Chevron says it is not within its mandate to interfere in community affairs.
