The Trade Union Congress, TUC, has elected Mr Quadri Olaleye as its new National President
A faction of the NLC, led by Comrade Ayuba Wabba, had insisted on going ahead with the planned nationwide strike over the purported removal of subsidy on petrol and the hike in the price of the commodity, even as it faced mass defections among its ranks and despite a court order against such an action on Tuesday.
Already, there are signs that workers in the private sector would not participate in the planned strike action beginning on Wednesday, a factor which may greatly undermine the protest of the new price regime.
While also calling for the speedy passage of the PIB, which he described as the most important solution to the myriad of problems facing the sector, he said, “The PIB must be passed into law if efforts to woo investors into the sector are to yield any positive fruits.
