Stakeholders remain divided about the wisdom in the continued search for hydrocarbon resources in the north, especially as billion has already been sunk without making a commercial find.
“The stakeholders (oil workers) will ensure that the lacunas, particularly the adverse labour clauses identified in the Bill are addressed before its passage,” it stated.
“Diezani Alison-Madueke has had a trail of overwhelmingly frightening and shocking records of corruption allegations and damning reports of abuse of office against her by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), of which she is yet to be questioned or indicted.”
They noted that, “Specifically, the ill-advised separation of a hitherto comprehensive bill into bits has created a sufficient setback to a holistic and more effective effort to revamp the oil sector in Nigeria for the benefit of citizens.”
Experts have said that the government should revoke taxes, incentives and waivers already granted to companies and the revenue be used to achieve economic recovery.
