He said Nigeria has nearly all renewable energy resources that could help the nation to achieve more than sufficient power desirable, adding that a renewable resource can be used repeatedly and replaced naturally.

“As a result of the abundance of natural gas in Nigeria, we should be able to convert all the flared gas into methanol which will make it more useful in energy, power and petrochemical industries.”
He said, “Nigerians are in the best position to assess the power situation and not the figure being released by government officials. Let’s hope that the 100 per cent of the (NIPP projects) will be completed and all of them will be feeding power into our homes. Maybe we will see the change.”
Dr. Onu stated that the change from fossil to renewable energy was informed by the need to provide power to revive our factories and build new ones in order to create, provide jobs and reduce poverty in the country.

“With this measure, if anybody steals our crude oil, the government will be able to identify it, because even crude oil can have fingerprints and with the equipment we have here, we can do it in Nigeria.”
He said that it had become necessary for the country to diversify its economy, prior to the time the crude oil would either lose its major economic relevance or dry up, to avoid associated consequences.
Onu said the ministry would facilitate access to the 85 per cent offer from China for the approval of the 15 per cent counterpart funding to guarantee local production of Solar Cells in Nigeria.
“Even now, Nigeria exports crude oil and imports petroleum products. When your economy is based on one volatile commodity, you cannot determine the price,” he said.
